H.D. Jacobs High School Hazardous Materials Spill

At 8:35 a.m. on May 26, 2011 the Algonquin - Lake in the Hills Fire Protection District responded to a possible hazardous materials spill in the building located at 2601 Bunker Hill Drive, Algonquin, IL.

First arriving crews were on scene at 8:37 a.m. and were directed to the area where the spill occurred and, subsequently, was cleaned up by school staff.  Between 500 ml and 800 ml of formaldehyde was spilled.  Due to the isolated area the spill occurred in and minimal about spilled there was no need to evacuate the building.  School operations and students were not affected.

Two school district personnel were transported to an area hospital for evaluation.  Their condition, while not life threatening, is not known.

In addition to the Algonquin-Lake in the Hills Fire Protection District aid was also received from Huntley and Carpentersville Fire Departments.
