Village of Algonquin

• Follows the McHenry County Public Health Ordinance (effective 4-1-08).  For more information, please visit the McHenry County Department of Health website. 
• Open Burning of Landscape Waste is limited to the months of April, May, October and November.  
• Allows Bonfires and Recreational fires to 3’ x 3’ x 3’ in area

Prohibited –  

• Burning of manure, garbage, litter, grass 
• Burning when winds are in excess of 10 MPH

Restricted Areas –

• Minimum of 100’ from a habitable structure (i.e. residence, school, etc.)
• Minimum of 50’ from a non-habitable structure (i.e. detached garage, shed etc.)

Resident Permit Procedure

• Complete a Permit application, return to the Fire Prevention Bureau  
• Once approved, the form will be faxed back to you or available for pickup from District office
• There are no fees for this Permit
• Original permit application is kept in the FPB
• A copy of the permit must be available at the site the day of the burn
